Precoder Design for Cooperative Mimo

Cooperative relay communication systems have gained a lot of attention due to their potential to improve coverage, reliability and capacity of wireless networks. When multiple antennas are present at nodes, precoders can be implemented based on the channel state information (CSI) to further improve the system performance. In this thesis, the precoder design problem at the source and relay nodes in a two-hop network is analyzed. In particular, we consider an amplify and forward (AF) relay system operating in half duplex mode. For the first scenario, we design precoders and decoder in a three node AF relay system to maximize the received signal to noise ratio (SNR). The proposed scheme is based on transmission of a single stream data. In the the second scenario, under the same system model, we suggest precoder structures that can support transmission of multi streams of data. The suggested methods in the first two parts of this thesis require full CSI of all the links. To reduce the required CSI, as the last part of this thesis, we propose a precoding scheme based on partial channel state information between nodes. This scenario is based on availability of multiple relays for cooperation and negligibility
